Melinda Stafford, MS, LMHC

Knowing something about a potential therapist can help in choosing the right therapist for you. This is my chance to share a little of myself to help you in your decision-making process.

I am a native of Spokane, Washington. I earned my Bachelor's Degree at the University of Idaho in l981 and my Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology from Eastern Washington University in 1988. After earning my advanced degree, I worked for 16 years at a local mental health agency as a therapist, supervisor and manager. I lived abroad for a year in Cork, Ireland and after that life changing year I came home to the Northwest and got back to my work as a therapist and supervisor for a therapeutic foster care program.

In 2000 I began my training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy). I entered private practice in 2004 where I integrated my years of training and experience with my ongoing EMDR studies. I am currently a certified as an EMDR therapist and an EMDRIA approved consultant. I also currently teach classes in psychology at the 2 local community colleges.

Even after 23 years, I am very passionate about my work. For balance and healthy self-care I find joy in gardening—growing my own food and flowers, spiritual practice, bike riding, reading, and whipping up tasty meals for my family and friends.
